Raw Oatmeal!!!

Looks like warm, cooked oatmeal, doesn't it?

This has been one of my favorite meals lately...

Raw oatmeal!

What is Raw Oatmeal?

Raw oat groats soaked in water overnight in the fridge then placed in the food processor with dates/agave and cinnamon, or applesauce, vanilla, cinnamon and raisins then topped with raw almonds and served cold.

Seriously, this stuff is filling and keeps me full for HOURS!!! The other day I had it as my second meal (around 10:30 AM) and was not hungry until about 4:00 PM.

Seriously GOOD food. Allan even likes it. :)

I am working on a Cacao Bliss inspired raw oatmeal, recipe, too.

This looks wonderful! I made my own RAW oat groats cereal as well, by soaking them, straining the water, sprinkling with cinnamon and sugar and setting out in the sunshine to "dehydrate" them.

Have searched high and low for oat groats. Where did you get yours? I live in Canada but I may be able to order them online.

Thanks for sharing my enthusiasm for Raw Oatmeal.
Veg, I purchase my oat groats in the bulk sction of any local Co-Op or Whole Foods. You could try the Bob's Red Mill online store, I think that they sell oat groats or Amazon.com is always a good resource. Happy hunting!

I found oat groats. Apparently, here in Canada they're also called oat kernels, which is why I was having a hard time finding them whenever I would Google the product. I have some on order as I write.

hmm can you do this with steel cut oats or anything else?

RunToFinish, I have never tried this with steel cut oats or other oats; however, I would imagine that you could use steel cut oats instead of the oat groats. Because steel cut oats are already partially cooked during their processing, you would not need to soak them as long as oat groats.

As for regular rolled oats, I am not sure how exactly this would turn out. Do you like oat flour or oat bran? I would imagine the consistency would end up much like that.

Just had a bowl and it was so yummy and filling. Couldn't finish. This is a perfect example of nutrient dense food!

I ended up with something the texture of wet cement when I tried this... it was so dense I couldn't eat it. What is the secret to making this edible?
