Fairmont, MN

This last weekend, we went to the Fairmont area of Southern Minnesota to celebrate my cousin’s graduation, observe Memorial Day, and reminisce of my Uncle Lonnie. Both of my parents are from the Fairmont area and we still have several relatives from both sides of the family that still make the area their home. I always love visiting with my family and look forward to every chance that we have to spend together.

As some of you know, this last December, my dad’s brother, Lonnie, was taken from us after a short battle with a very aggressive form of kidney cancer that spread into his colon; the entire family really misses him. Lonnie was my dad’s closest sibling and played a large role in my life. He was the person that I could talk to when life just didn’t make sense and for a period in my life he was my best friend.

Here is a photo from this weekend of his wife and two sons:

This is a photo of my immediate family, in her usual form, Melissa is being silly and making us all laugh:

On our way to the graduation party yesterday, we stopped at the Lakeside and the Welcome Cemeteries to visit both sets of grandparents. This is a photo of me with my maternal grandparent’s headstone:

The last stop of the weekend was in Sherburne, MN to celebrate the high school graduation my cousin, Miranda. Next year she will start taking medical secretary classes in Jackson, MN. Look at how pretty she looked!

You were just a short distance from where I grew up. Lewisville, MN. Not far from Fairmont at all.
Sounds like it was a lovely weekend. Your cousin looked beautiful and holy pictures behind her. lol.
Oh and today marks day 1 of me eating clean. I can do this. I know I can. Any tips that really made it work for you and I"d appreciate it!!!

Kari, congrats on starting Clean Eating! You will do great. The most important advice that I can give you is to PLAN AHEAD! I always plan out all of my meals (and the ones that Allan eats) one week in advance and make a shopping list and stick to it.

The first couple weeks are the most difficult (and expensive) as you are stocking up on pantry essentials, throwing out items that are not clean (if unopened, I donate to a food shelf), and detoxing. But after this initial portion, it is easy-peasy! And along the way you will notice significant weight loss and a major change in your body (I lost 8 pounds in the first week)!
